Dear Undergraduate and Graduate Students,
My fellow faculty members and I would like to welcome you back from spring break 2020. We recognize that the recent news of the University’s canceling of in-person classes and events for the remainder of the semester is unsettling. What is happening now in the world and in our nation is unprecedented, but we will get through this together because our community is strong, resilient, and caring. As we all face new challenges in our work and daily lives associated with COVID-19, the faculty at UMBC want you to know that as your professors and mentors, we are committed to continuing to provide you with the excellence in education and mentorship that you have always received here at UMBC. We are here to support you.
Faculty at UMBC have worked hard over the spring break to convert your courses to an online platform. The Division of Information Technology has been instrumental in offering the IT capabilities and support they have perfected over the years for distance education. As your classes go completely online, please be in communication with your instructors about any questions you may have and to offer suggestions and feedback. We are confident that the remainder of the spring semester, despite its challenges, will be a successful, rewarding, and memorable experience with many stories of teamwork and leadership passed to the future generations to guide them in dealing with similar challenges. As we work toward our common educational goals, let’s remember to display patience and understanding to one another.
Best wishes for a productive and successful second half of the spring semester.
On Behalf of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee,
Güneş Koru, Faculty Senate President
