Mark your calendars for the annual 2020 Capital PKAL Regional Network
Meeting, to be hosted at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County on
March 20th, 2020. STEM educators, professionals, and other stake-holders will gather to discuss ideas on the theme Diverse Tools for Diverse Students:
Interdisciplinary STEM Education to Increase Accessibility, Inclusion, and
Success. The all-day event will include a combination of oral presentations,
workshops, panel discussions, and poster sessions to highlight the following
themes:
1. Integrating STEM disciplines to promote outcomes for diverse student
populations.
2. Infusion of art and humanities into STEAM curricula.
3. Co-curricular interventions to foster inclusion and promote student
success in STEM.
4. Best practices for accessibility in STEM education.
There will also be a dedicated listening session for non-tenure track faculty that
will be facilitated by PKAL Executive Officer. Up to 32 non-tenure track faculty
can have their registration waived for the conference on a first-come, firstserved
basis as long as they attend this session.
The Keynote speaker for this event will be Dr. Viknesh Sivanathan, Program
Officer at Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Science Education Alliance. Dr.
Sivanathan will discuss incorporating research experiences directly in
classroom settings.
