Julian is a semi-finalist for a Fulbright fellowship for graduate study in Taiwan, at National Chengchi University.
He
is also a finalist for the Blakemore Fellowship which would allow him
to study Japanese at the Inter-University Center for Japanese Studies in
Yokohama.
Julian was named first
runner-up for ASIANetwork’s Marianna McJimsey Award: 2019 Student Paper
Competition for his paper “Democracy Suppressed Allied Censorship in
Occupied Japan, 1945-52.” His submission was based on his History honors
thesis, which was supervised by Professors Vaporis and Oyen.
Good
luck to Julian as he embarks on his fellowship interviews and attends
the 2019 ASIANetwork Annual Conference at the University of San Diego in
April 2019. As part of his award, he will participate in the Student
Poster Session at the annual conference.
