The recent discovery and characterization of the ability to optically reflect and waveguide sound in air by the Cullum Laboratory has been selected as one of four finalists (from over 130 papers submitted to the annual SciX conference (formerly FACSS) on analytical chemistry and spectroscopy) for the prestigious FACSS Innovation Award . An oral presentation of this work will be given at a special awards session of the annual FACSS meeting by Dr. Cullum’s graduate student Mr. Daniel Kazal, where final selection of the 2017 Awardees will be made. This work is a recent and ongoing collaboration between UMBC and the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, based on Dr. Cullum’s preliminary results, that Mr. Kazal has been furthering over the year.
