The US and Maryland economies have a shortage of qualified technical professionals--especially computer scientists, engineers and IT professionals. Corporations are looking for diverse talent to solve complex problems and to come up with innovative technological solutions. Women and ethnic/racial minorities continue to underrepresented in IT and engineering  professions. CWIT exists to increase the participation of women and other underrepresented groups in the creation of technology and in IT and engineering careers.

The CWIT Affiliates community is open to all women and interested men in engineering and IT majors in the College of Engineering and Information Technololgy (COEIT). The Affiliates program exits to create a vibrant community of the women who are excited about, design, use, and creatively apply technology to solve the world's most important and pressing problems!

The Affiliates Program connects women in UMBC technology majors though:

1. offereing peer mentors to new freshman and transfer students each semester.
2. a free Affiliates Retreat each Fall
3. Women in Technology (WIT) Events- cosponsored each semester with other student organizations such as the Society of Women Engineers, CWIT Student Council, and IS Council of Majors to offer women in technology related, networking, and social events.

Register online to be an Affiliate for the 2016-2017 academic year.
